  • [SOLVED] 'as.csv' -Load CSV Data via the Application Server

    Dear Users,

I read somewhere that when we upload a file whose name ends in “as.csv” instead of just “.CSV”, it will be interpreted as an application server CSV file, as opposed to a database-centric CSV file .
I tried the same, but it was not a successful attempt.

Has someone worked on 'as.csv' before??

    Any suggestion is highly appreciated

          Hi Dave Lee

Thank you for the attachment, but i need a appilcation server csv, which ends with 'as.csv' not like a normal csv .
Say for the same file OB_REFNUM_QUAL.csv , name for application csv would be OB_REFNUM_QUAL.as.csv

Can you please provide me that if possible.

Re: 'as.csv' -Load CSV Data via the Application Server

            Hi Geetika,

PFA sample as.csv file (Location.as.csv). I tried this and it was uploaded correctly.

Please note the second line must be a comma-separated list of attribute names. Attribute names are like database column names, except they omit the underscores and use mixed case. For example,a column called location_gid corresponds to the attribute locationGid. Note that the first character is in lower-case for attribute names, but upper case for entity names.

                Hi Geetika,

I am working on OTM 5.5 cu04 and the above CSV get loaded correctly (without any such error). Just cross check again whether you have entered the domain names correctly at all places in the CSV

Then it might be some other issue pertaining to domain/installation. Check with oracle support for the same

Re: 'as.csv' -Load CSV Data via the Application Server

                          Hi Geetika,

Why did you want to use as.csv instead of regular csv files? Even though these files are processed by the App server, this doesn't mean that the contents is actually checked and verified like with xml files, so there are no benefits in using as.csv.

Until recently, a major problem with as.csv was that you were not able to export or import all data fields. This issue was fixed though in one of the 5.5 CUs or RUs. Another downside of as.csv is the peculiar upper/lower case formatting of the data field headers: just having them all caps like in csv files is easier.

There's only one advantage with as.csv, and that is a technical one. In order to import/export regular csv files, the Web server needs to communicate directly with the DB server, and typically this communication is prohibited by a firewall, which only allows the Web and App to talk to each other. So, if for some reason your IT dept doesn't want to open the firewall between the Web and DB, you can't use csv import/export, but you can still use as.csv.

Re: 'as.csv' -Load CSV Data via the Application Server

I did find loading CSV via App Server could prevent some caching issues, especially for those rates related tables.
However, be noted that not all tables can be loaded via as.csv. Therefore, sometimes you still need to use the following servlet to clean cache.
                            glog.webserver.cache.CacheDiagServlet
                            glog.webserver.cache.WebCacheDiagServlet

yes you are absolutely correct. It do have various issues comparing to regular csv.

                              Hello josephliang,
actually the whole idea to use as.csv was for rates. But due to other restrictions, idea to use as.csv was dropped.

                              Thanks all for the response
