Dock Scheduling Functionality

Regarding dock scheduling, I want to understand business advantage of this functionality... why would someone want to use this functionality when shipment has already been tendered and even if I schedule shipments from my end , how will respective service providers will come to know about the appointment times or yard slot numbers?

Please describe the end to end process flow for dock scheduling

Dock Scheduling is about planning the in/outbound traffic for Distribution Centres. Ensuring DC's are staffed correctly and kept busy is essential for productivity.
Carriers have to log on to OTM to see their appointment.
A tender can be for a particular day - the appointment defines the times the DC can accomodate the load.
