  • Difference between Continous move and Routing Execution

    Hello at all,

I just started in testing OTM and have one question: What is the general difference between building up an continous move and using the Routing Excecution, on the first impression this looks more or less like the same thing for me.

    Thank you for an answer...

    Michael:

I imagine you are speaking of the standard Transportation Planning and Execution functionality when you say Routing Execution.

In OTM, the Continuous Move Functionality provides the opportunity to link 2 or more shipments together to achieve a lower total series cost. This helps to increase equipment utilization by identifying backhaul opportunities (an outbound shipment which is coupled with an inbound shipment). These links can be assigned manually or via automated process based on user defined criteria. Also, additional reporting capabilities are provided when using the Continuous Move Functionality:
    - Deadhead mileage data
    - CM Cost savings data vs base charges

Whereas, the standard Transportation Planning and Execution generally only looks at a single segment (an individual outbound shipment or an individual inbound shipment) without considering a Driver's assignment to follow.
