  • Start time for Last leg of Multi-Leg shipment

    Hi Friends,
    I am trying out a multi-leg scenario.
    A->B->C
    2 shipments created. 1 from A->B and another from B->C
    I can put the date at which the shipment starts from location A in the order release. Is there a way I can put a date which can define when to start the 2nd shipment from B?

    Regards,
    Anirban Roy

    No, you can only drive the shipment stop date/times for A and C, not any intermediate stops

      Anirban,
      • You can enter early pick up time at Location A.
      • Now create a calendar and attach it to your intermediate stop (Location B).
      • In your calendar mention LOAD/RECIEVE activity and also mention the date/time stating PERFORM/DONT PERFORM.
      In your scenario,

      Assuming shipment 1 has reached Location B, and you have the following in the calendar

      LOAD/RECIEVE - DONT PERFORM with date and time. Till then shipment 1 has to wait.

      Now again you mention the time at which the first shipment will be recieved as well as second shipment should start.

      LOAD/RECIEVE - PERFORM with date and time.

      The time you entered here will be the departure time for shipment 2.

      Let me know if this works for you.

      Regards,
      Rajiv

        Hi Rajiv,
        Thanks for the inputs. Using a calendar makes my time for departure for the 2nd leg fixed. The problem is that the departure time for the 2nd leg will be varying each day

          Re: Start time for Last leg of Multi-Leg shipment

          It is true what Rajiv says that you have possibilities in OTM to manage the start and stop times at all locations with the calendar. However, these restriction will apply for ALL orders, so you can't have Order X to start at intermediate point B at 9 AM, and Order Y to start at intermediate point B at 11 AM.

          That said, Version 6.0 has a new feature to add Early and Late Arrival Time on Order Release Stops. I don't have any experience with this yet, but you may want to look into this.

            I actually did check the order release stops feature in 6.0 but still could not figure out how I can make the shipment start from the intermediate stop. There was no place where i could give the departure. It just had early and late arrival times.

              Hi Anirban,
              Could you explain the business reasons why you need to specify the exact departure time on an intermediate stop? This may help in finding an appropriate solution for you in OTM, if any.

                Re: Start time for Last leg of Multi-Leg shipment

                Hi Lourens,

                The business is something like this:
                A ->Manufacturing Location
                B -> Warehouse or distribution centre
                C -> Customer location
                Here the delivery date to the customer C is not given. Instead of that, a date is given by which the order will be dispatched definitely from the warehouse B (note: not the manufacturing location A).
                Depending on this departure date from the warehouse B orders are dispatched from the manufacturing location A.
                This is a scenario where instead of the pickup from manufacturing location or the delivery date to the customer, a pickup date from the warehouse is given.
                Hope the case was clear.

                Regards,
                Anirban Roy

                  Anirban,

                  Have you tried this scenario using buffer location in order base?

                  If not, mention your location B - warehouse as buffer location, and location C - Customer as destination location.

                  One order release will be automatically created through agent from source to buffer location. There after you can release required quantity with date/time from buffer to destination.(In this way you can plan your second shipment at any time you require).

                  Give a try at this.

                  Regards,
                  Rajiv

                    Hi Rajiv,

                    This works fine. I was somehow hoping that I could reduce the 2 order releases for the 2 legs.
                    Guess, have to live with 2 order releases
                    Thanks.

                        It required 2 order releases. I could not do it with 1.

                          but if i need to create 2 buy shipments with 2 transport mode like rail and TL with 2 service provider form only one OR, is it applicable?
