  • Multi-stop vs Direct Shipment Equipment Capacity

I have a scenario where a 53 ft trailer maxes out at 46,000 lbs but can only go above 42,000 lbs if it is a direct shipment. I need to be able to allow direct shipments in that equipment up to 46,000 lbs but only allow it to consolidate up to 42,000 lbs - so a multi-stop shipment with 42,000 lbs one one stop and 4,000 on the other should not be allowed. Does anyone have an idea on the best way to do this?

    Thanks,
    Mauricio

I am not saying this is the best way, but it's one nonetheless...

Assign the 42 klbs equipment to your existing multistop rate, and create a new rate with the 46 klbs equipment for direct shipments, restricting it to max 2 stops.

Thank you Lourens. We've also thought about doing something similar with creating a separate non-multistop itinerary with the 46 klbs equipment assigned to it and the 42 klbs equipment assigned to our existing multi-stop itinerary. We'll have to see what the impact on performance is with having 1 additional itinerary as well as the impact on maintenance vs your option.

      Thanks again!

Don't set up an add'l itin, just an additional rate offering
