  • Cross Dock Re-Optimization Help

    Hi All
I have concerns with how cross docks work in OTM. I am working on a scenario where I have goods leaving the source location to the cross dock with a 3 day transit. When the goods get to the Xdock location they may need to be re-optimized with other orders leaving the Xdock. I am trying to find the best way to handle this in OTM. OTM Plans the inbound and outbound leg at the same time. The planner will tender the source to xdock move with a 3 day transit time. Once the shipment arrives at the cross dock the planner may want to reoptimize the cross dock to destination leg as there may be other orders that source out of the cross dock that can be routed with the existing shipment. I have no issues getting cross docks to work but need help in how to manage changes, additions to the cross dock move. Any ideas would help!
    Thanks
    Sam

Have you tried using consolidation/deconsolidation pools? My understanding of xdock functionality in OTM is that it is basically using a multi-leg itinerary right? I've used consolidation/deconsolidation pools before and it's worked well for automatically merging multiple shipments into one for the outbound shipment from pool to final destination (ex- shipment 1 goes from A to Pool to C, shipment 2 goes from B to Pool to C, OTM will automatically create 2 inbound shipments to the Pool and 1 outbound shipment from the Pool to the final destination). I've even gotten multistop shipments to work outbound from the Pool to multiple destinations.

I'm not exactly sure if this is what you are looking for but I hope this helps! It's been a while since I set this up but let me know if you have any questions!

      Hi
When building a xdock itinerary it is not a multi-leg so OTM will always plan both legs just as with pools. This in my opinion is not a issue if I am able to just replan or reoptimize the second leg after then first leg has been delivered to the cross dock. I have not found a way to accomplish this peice of it.

Hi, I have a similar issue. In my case I need to build multi-stop shipments from the crossdock/Pool. I my scenario I need to consolidate orders from a manufacturing plant to a Branch location for the purpose of transfering the trailer to a local driver to deliver to multiple job sites. Has anybody been able to do multistop out of a pool or crossdock location?
