  • Change a Customer

Does anyone know how I could model this business practice in OTM.

We sell our product internationally, so some times a customer has ordered a container from us that is on the water, and the customer will cancel the order. In this situation we have to find a new customer for the product that is already halfway through it's shipment process.

Is there a way to change the customer even though the shipment is already built? Could I just delete the entire shipment and order, and put through a new one with the new customer, with date emphasis set to past or none? My guess is what would work best might be putting through new order releases, adding them to the existing shipment, and removing the old order releases from the shipment. Does this sound right?

    Re: Change a Customer

    Hi,

What is the purpose of the customer? SOunds perhaps as a stupid question, but some people mean by customer the delivery address, some people mean the freight payer, etc...

For the delivery address I don't see really the problem. CHange the delivery address and address what the impact is to the shipment(s). THen it depends how you set up your transport, using multileg etc...

      Re: Change a Customer

A customer would be the company that purchased the product from us. So yes it would be the delivery address and more. I guess that thing that concerns me most is that OTM is a little difficult once events are entered on a shipment, and this would likely be after events were entered.

        Re: Change a Customer

        Hi,

        The way we using it:

        - We receive an order modification from a OMS.
        - If the delivery location changes (the customer from our customer) an agent checks whether the shipment is in transit etc. Depending on wha tis the outcome the shipment will be changed, withdrawn etc.

If your customer changes, I can imagine you have several possibilities. If on sea you can't just reroute it, but when it is still in the port perhaps you can. A lot is depending on your setup, using multi-legs or single leg.
If your shipment is already at sea, your container will be delivered in the destination port anyway. THis means that you want to re-route the delivery (land) leg. Because that is not on its way you can do that.
I think you can also log this by raising events through the UI.

If the payer of the transport costs also changes, you want to change the bill-to party (if you set it up this way). But as I understand you are a supplier of the goods, I can imagine that the transport costs are paid another way.

        Hope it helps.
        Best Regards,
