  • Automating the Fuel Surcharge weekly updation Process

    Dear Pals,

On one of the presentation of SIG conference posted by Chris, I read that we can automate the weekly Fuel Surcharge process, directly by getting DOE fuel price from website and updating the required OTM tables. Could any one tell me how can we achieve this?

    Cheers,
    Lakshman

    Hi Lakshman,

FuelSurcharges can be automated using Rate Factors in OTM.Using Rate Factor, Fuel Surcharges can
be copied into shipments,as accessorials during the planning. This can be found under Contract and Rate Management > Power Data > Rate Factor & Rate Factor Rule
    Warm Regards,

Re: Automating the Fuel Surcharge weekly updation Process

It appears that I wasn't clear when submitting my post because I was directed to a site which delivers the basics on creating Rate Factors and Rate Factor Rules. I am aware of the setup of those and how they can be used in facilitating fuel surcharge calculations.

What I am interested in is how I can automate the process of actually going to the eia.gov site (or via subscription email), retreiving the weekly on highway deisel price and placing that number in OTM to then be processed accordingly. From what I can tell, the eia site does not provide a webservice which can be leveraged.

Has anyone found a way to avoid the weekly process of manually entering the index number in OTM?

That helps. Thanks, Joseph. I would have never found that. Sounds like the factor retrieval has been automated using Web scraping with HTTP.
