  • Creation of large database

    Hi All,

This query I have is not specific to OTM, but general DB related question for one of the WMS system's DB needs to be configured.

If I have to copy and recreate a large database of size > 500GB, what would be the quick approach in terms of time and effort.
    - Copying of datafiles and other configuration files and cloning the database
    - Use Oracle import utility

Another query is if I need to move the database of above or more than above size between different platform for e.g. from Linux to Solaris or other Unix flavour, what should be the right approach for doing that. Do you think that first approach 1 is possible which I think is infeasible.

Any help with information would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Suresh

    Re: Creation of large database

    Suresh,

The fastest approach is to copy the datafiles and clone the DB. If the files will reside in a different location on the target system, then you'll need to ensure the control files are properly updated.

However - this won't work if the DB server platforms are different. In that case, you'll have to rely on an import/export process.
