Oracle 10g Client on Linux Question

Hi All,

Our OTM 5.5 environment is on Redhat Enterprise 4.2 Linux 32-bit. I was new to Linux back when we moved our OTM environments from eStudio to our local hardware 9 months ago. I have a quick configuration question regarding Oracle client software on the OTM app server. The oracle client was installed according to Oracle documentation, so the "oracle" OS account owns the 10g client. The OTM application software(using OAS) was installed on the "otm" OS account. Looking back, I think it would have been better to have installed both the 10g Client and the OTM App software as the same OS user, but I was new to both OTM and Linux. I worked with an eStudio consultant on the initial installs, and he ended up copying the $GLOG_HOME/glog/oracle/script8 directory into the home directory of the "oracle" OS user to run the install scripts against the database(because the "otm" account didn't have access to the Oracle client software). Is there a "best practice" way to grant the "otm" OS account access to the 10g Client that is owned by the "oracle" OS account? For future reference, should the Oracle Client be installed under the same OS user as the OTM application software?

Problem Solved:

The oracle client was installed at the path "/u10/app/oracle". The ORACLE_HOME structure by default allows other users to run executables out of the bin directory. The directory above the ORACLE_HOME(/u10/app/oracle) granted no priveleges to "Other". I had someone on our UNIX team fix that, and the "otm" user was immediately able to use the client software owned by the "oracle" user. I was looking for a complicated solution, when the fix turned out to be simple.
