  • Logon Page not coming up - New Install

    All,

First let me say I realized during the db configuration steps that I had set the ORACLE_HOME directory incorrectly. I've gone back to all places I know of in the start-up scripts gc3env.sh, $GLOG_HOME/oas/bin/oc4j.sh, $GLOG_HOME/tomcat/bin/tomcat.sh. I'm not sure if there are others.

On to my problem. OTM starts up okay, but when I go to the site with my browers, it just sits there waiting for some response. It does realize that it is OTM site as the brower title changes, but doesn't go on any further. My guess is it has something to do with the initial installation parameters being missed (i.e. ORACLE_HOME). Anyone have any thoughts?
    Box Information
    Solaris 10
    Oracle Application Server
App/Web/DB all on the same box
    No Report Server
    5.5 CU3

Also, if I need to reinstall do I need to do all the db configuration work again?

    Thanks,
    John

Re: Logon Page not coming up - New Install

    John,

The first step is to check to see if OAS has initialized correctly. Check the otm/logs/oas/console.log (it may be named something else) file to see if you have any errors. The next step would be to check the otm/logs/tomcat/console.log file and see if that has any errors. Also check the otm/logs/glog.app.log for any errors as well. Report back what the error is and we will try to help you out.

Re: Logon Page not coming up - New Install

      Hi Nick,

It looks like OAS is not firing up. I'm not much of an expert in that app server, so it's a little challenging to tell. Here's a couple of lines. After that last line it gets pretty repetitive on the statement, just date time is changing. Funny thing is I did an OTM/OAS install earlier this month any it went off without a issue.

Any help would be appreciate. I'm going to look at the other OAS install.

      Thanks,
      John

Have you copied over the 3rd party library files as part of the post install?

          Hi Nick,

Yes, I just checked on each to the 3rdparty files. Just to give you a quick run down.

          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/gc3webapp/WEB-INF/lib/3rdparty/velocity-1.4.jar
          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/gc3webapp/WEB-INF/lib/3rdparty/velocity-dep-1.4.jar
          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/gc3webapp/WEB-INF/lib/3rdparty/finj.jar
          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/gc3webapp/WEB-INF/lib/3rdparty/wsdl4j.jar
          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/gc3webapp/WEB-INF/lib/3rdparty/jstl.jar
          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/gc3webapp/WEB-INF/lib/3rdparty/standard.jar
          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/gc3webapp/WEB-INF/lib/jstl.jar
          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/gc3webapp/WEB-INF/lib/standard.jar
          /u01/oracle/otm/app/glog/tomcat/common/lib/struts.jar

All have a mode of 755 and are owned by the OTM users and have the appropriate group.

          Thanks,
          John

Re: Logon Page not coming up - New Install

            This line:

has the same filename but is not identical to /u01/oracle/otm/app/dash/lib/xprm.jar

Looks like it has found the file but may be different than the version that the application is expecting. I would check the file versions to be sure you downloaded the correct version or if it was updated on the download site. If no one else has any oher suggestions, I would then suggest that you put a ticket in with Oracle support.

              Hi Nick,

Well, I think I got it. I didn't realize that the company I'm doing this for uses Solaris Containers. After banging my head for a bit, I shut down my other instance of OTM and fired this one up and it worked fine.

Now I know you can't install OAS on the same box, but I would have thought this type of "virtual server" would have been okay. I'll check metalink for this information on virtual servers and OAS.

Thanks for the help. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

                John,

I would advise strongly not to use OTM in any VM. I have seen in the past that OTM performs horribly in a VM. If you are looking at creating multiple instances, you should just use a new directory with other ports for Apache, Tomcat and OAS. The version of OAS that is included in OTM uses only oc4j so you can install muliple instances with it.

                  Hi Nick,

Well I can't disagree with the performance it is pretty bad. Right now this is just of POC site, so I think the guys can handle it. I will let the client know this is strongly frowned upon and performance will be come and issue. Thanks.

As far as mutliple installs on the same box I thought OAS could only be installed once on the same box? I don't remember where I read that.

Thanks for the help. I'm still a little miffed on the why it was causing such an issue.

                    Hi John,

Getting mutliple instances of the full OAS to install is generally a no no but can be done with a little modification. The one that ships with OTM is a stipped down version which doesn't include things such as the IAS console. I only had to do this once and hopefully will never do that again.

Well with any hope the buy out of BEA maybe will go back to just the two app servers (unless they embark on JBOSS).
