  • OTM - LOAD Balancer - OBIEE

    Hi,

    i have installed two OTM machines in a Active / Pasive cluster. Then i would like to put a LOAD BALANCER between the OTM machines and the two OBIEE machines.

    I would like distribute load between two OBIEE machines.

    In the glog.properties file i have the next fields:

    p_reports_server=rep_OBIEEmachine_instancenumber
    p_reports_out_dir=/opt/otmreports/rptapache/htdocs
    reports_server_fqdn=http://OBIEEmachine:7777/reports/rwservlet
    report_server_url=http://OBIEEmachine:81

    I have some doubts abot this configuration:

    Could the p_reports_out_dir send to a share filesystem?
    does any information to configure a load balancer between OTM and OBIEE?

    Thanks.

    Before I get in too deep - what OTM version is this? v5.5 or v6.x?

      The properties that have been referenced are for Oracle Forms and Reports not OBIEE unless this was changed in 6.0

            Re: OTM - LOAD Balancer - OBIEE

            The reason I was asking is that OTM uses the 10gR2 (10.1.2.0.2) Forms and Reports server for Reports, not OBIEE. The properties that you're referencing above are for Forms and Reports.

            OBIEE is only used for the FTI component of OTM.

              You are correct. I confusing it.It is Forms and not OBIEE.

              Dou you know if it is possible configure OTM to use a Load balancer and then could connect to two potencial servers ?

                Re: OTM - LOAD Balancer - OBIEE

                We've worked on this in the past and have not been able to get it working to our standards. You can load-balance between two, but then run into an issue with scheduled reports and cached files.

                Our solution has been to have an active/passive cluster, so that one takes over fully for the operational Forms and Reports server.

                  To configure the cluster (active/pasive), are you use the clusterware oracle software?

                    Re: OTM - LOAD Balancer - OBIEE

                    No - we're using custom scripts, but in the past have used Sun Clustering, Red Hat Clustering and Veritas Clustering.

                      Dou you have information over the cache or other issue that we have suffered in an Active/Active implementation?

                        Do you know if it is possible to assign hight affinity to transaction from OTM to Repor Server?

                        I think thar it could be eliminate the problem of cached files, don't i?

                          Re: OTM - LOAD Balancer - OBIEE

                          As a related note, in v6.x, the report server (BI) is integrated into OTM (not to be confused with the OBIEE used for FTI). It is a part of the OTM Web server installation.

                          If you check out the OTM Admin Guide, there are now ways to balance or cluster this out, based on performance needs.

                            Hi Chris,

                            Can we use the load balance for Czarlite / PC* Miler also?

                            If we implement the Czarlite / PC* Miler integration with OTM using a load balancer, how stable it works?

                            Do we really need a load balance for the lite weight components like Czarlite & PC*Miler which has out-of-box integration no matter what the load is?
                            Cheers,
                            Murthy

                              Yes, you can load-balance, using a standard hardware or software load balancer - it works just fine. From a load perspective, this isn't necessary -- but it does help provide failover redundancy.
