This can be a viable option. I have seen multiple customer tackle OTM's slow screens using Citrix, as it seems that it uses less bandwidth than OTM direct.
On another note, we use HTTP compression within our Load Balancers to provide much higher speed to OTM for users in remote or high-latency networks. So far it's worked very well.
I'd recommend trying both and seeing which works best for you and which is most cost effective.
