  • Purging i-transmission tables

    Hi,
    My question has 2 parts,
    i) Does purging i-transmission tables improve overall system performance
ii) If so, is there any recommended frequency with which they can be purged?

    Regards,
    Ashwin

Transmissions are the temporary data and I don't think purging of transmission will improve performance of system but it will free disk space. The frequency of purging depends on the volume of transmission happening in particular time period.

      Hi Prashant,

You're absolutely right about freeing up a lot of disk space (roughly 80% of an OTM database, depending on how long it has been running). To reclaim the disk savings, the DBA will have to complete a DB reorg after the purge.

In addition - this can speed up OTM, if the process of reading and writing into i_transmission is slowing down as the number of rows grows. There's no guarantee that this is the bottleneck that Ashwin is experiencing, however.
